A very definite 'NO' from me, too.
^ Yes special relaxed rules apply to the Tourist areas. They had to do it to compete with the likes of Bahrain & Dubai. Can't have tourists being flogged in public.

Yes, women can drive in Saudi now. They can walk out on their own as well. Happy days. Well, small steps but maybe a step in the right direction. I`m not defending them but I suspect that there must be some lovely areas of the Red Sea that will be opened up to tourists. I would go there for the snorkeling if nothing else.
From the responses on this thread it’s obvious you’re very lucky......

‘cos it looks like you’ve got the place to yourself!

Bon voyage!

^ Thank you. I`m sure I will be able to take advantage of some good deals :)
Yep, women can now drive in Saudi Arabia.

Not sure if there's a penalty for road-rage though.

Ooh - just like the UK. Maybe we have more in common than we think
That could just be one acrobat in a black sack.
may not be drivers at all, there's nothing to say so. Can anyone translate?

Sorry, my Hindi/Urdu/Gujarati isn't too good
I lived in Saudi for 3 years. The beaches are as good as or better than anywhere in the world.Plus no tourists so almost deserted. Not many bars though!
Absolutely not, no way, never, no how.

Why should I go to some outrageously overpriced bourgeois resort, to stuff still further the bulging coffers of undeserving towelheads, whose only aim in life is to ram outdated, mediaeval religious practices down the throats of all those of opposing or no beliefs, and totally disrespect the rights of half the population to at least live in the same manner as the other half?

Anybody who does go there is just abandoning the values of freedom and democracy we are so fortunate to have been brought up with, and encouraging the perpetuation of an overbearing, repressive and dictatorial authoritarianism into an infinite future of murder, rape, incest and elite power supremacy, impervious to criticism, reason or the concept of empathy. And they've got FAR too much money. Way, WAY too much.

One day, their empty, jewel-encrusted, sparkling chrome and glass culture will be swallowed up by the desert sands, once the oil and tourism dollars cease to flow. Can't happen soon enough.
