R&S has gone a bit quiet, hope Theland's OK.
Anyway, reading this book at the moment

This guy (William Schnoebelen) is a Christian who claims that in the past he has been a Pagan, a high priest of Wicca, a Catholic priest, a Satanic high priest, a high degree Freemason, a Mormon, an alien abductee, a vampire, a Druid priest...etc, the list goes on, until Jesus saved him.!!!
This guy sells millions of books to 'Christians', is popular on the Christian speaking circuit and has thousands on his you tube channel.
After reading the first few chapters of this book I could tell that he hasn't a clue what he was talking about. (ive spent years studying all this kind of stuff) and yet people buy into this rubbish when a few simple internet searches would tell you that he is either bonkers or a charlatan.
Just why are some people so gullible?
(BTW, the book was lent to me by a friend who wanted to know what I thought of it, I certainly wouldn't have bought it)

Just wanted to post an answer and not get into an argument.
I am not gullible.
Just as you have studied the subject, so have I, for over thirty years.
Have I read all of the bible in that time? No. But I have read and re read and studied most of it. Never got around to lists in Kings etc.
I have my evidence based faith, and it amuses me how hollow the secular materialistic alternative is with its FAITH in abiogenesis, and evolution, compared to the bible, that contains verifiable prophecies, especially regarding Israel and the Jews.
But above all, Jesus promised that if we searched for Him enthusiastically, He would allow Himself to be found.
He is not a curiosity to be discovered by casual tourism, but requires a vocational commitment.
The rewards are immense. Top of the list for me is peace, under all adverse circumstances, and the realisation that I have been forgiven for all of the evil I have done in my life. A lot I assure you sadly.
I have said my piece.
I do not intend to debate my position, so feel free to hurl the darts and arrows if you feel it appropriate.

Are they? Why would anybody expect that the natural cycle of birth, life and death would be different in the case of a human being, from that of a cat or a daisy? Or be terrified by it, except only in the manner of death, perhaps. Or do you disagree?
The eternal prospects offered to the faithful by Christianity are gold robes, harps, choral singing and bowing to the Lamb of God (check Revelation, Theland). Those of Islam are sexual congress with multiple young partners who don't suffer menstruation like normal women. Both prospects (although I'd probably have a go for a couple of days at option 2) having the characteristics of hell: Is that it? Nothing more for the rest of eternity?
Was is it Tertullian or some other who recognised the endless boredom of religiously defined "bliss" and noted that you could find an interesting distraction by observing the torture of the damned?
A propos of which, strange that a "loving" and "compassionate" God would inflict an infinite punishement for finite sins.
