sky tv and phone lines

can i use the phone line that i use for my pc as the line to plug my sky box into when i get sky installed? if i do this will it cause any problems when i use my pc? also why do people complain so much about having to plug sky into a phone line what harm could it possibly do?

I have sky, it was plugged in to phoneline when installed but was unplugged from phone line when engineer left and not been plugged in since and all works fine, I think the phone line thing is all about the advertisers paying for free installation. but you dont need phone line connection to recieve sky

The phone line can be required when accessing some SKY services such as SKY Mobile and other user areas. These areas are accessed by a freephone number not a premium rate as some believe.

So a phone line isnt necessary but useful for additional services.
