I've got an 11 y.o. Lurcher bitch and she is mad as a hatter! :o) She's got a great temperament, is great with kids and so loving it's un-believable!

Is she an exceptional Lurcher or are they all like that?

That is very typical of a lurcher, they tend to like to lie around a lot and get under your feet a little but they are full of energy when required and a fantastic temperament, ive had lurchers for years but unfortunately I dont have one now and I miss my Lurchers, Great companions.

But anybody looking to get a lurcher needs to find out the cross first, being a lurcher is no guarantee of a good dog and for those of you who is not sure what a lurcher is, its a cross between a working dog and a hound or running dog and originally bred for hunting and still used mainly for catching rabbits and foxes in the uk but have been used for hunting just about every creature over the years.

Running dogs like: greyhound, whippet, Saluki
and crossed with
Working dogs like: Collie, Terrier, German Shepherd
and many other crosses, so there is no such thing as a purebred, or KC registered Lurcher

Cheers Ratter15.

Mine is crossed with a collie (allegedly!). She lazes around upstairs (usually on my bed!), but boy can she motor when we go for walkies! :o)
I must admit to having a fondness for lurchers. They seem to have the best bits of anything bred into them, with none of the bad bits.

Mine has a such a personality! :o) She's the best dog I've EVER had and she makes me laugh so much!
Sadly, if you visit Battersea, you'll see loads of lurchers.

Until I got her (a friend of mine couldn't handle her) I'd never even considered getting a lurcher, but I'd DEFINITELY have another one.
