TTT you are in danger of over using the savage description.

Savage hardly describes financial fraud.

She got hold of it by bypassing the systems the council used to safeguard and distribute the funds. They have apparently tightened up the system. Too late to get the money back I bet.

There must be some checks as she got caught but it took too long. it does seem that more immediate checks (counter signature needed) or weekly/regular checks (maybe a list of all payments with explanations and some sort of paper trail so auditors/managers can check/challenge) which most private companies would use were not used here.
The 'savage' reference is an in- joke (AOG related I think) which sometimes comes up in TTT threads

it says she used prepaid cards, I assume this is how they are dishing it out. "The 'savage' reference is an in- joke (AOG related I think) which sometimes comes up in TTT threads " - it comes up in lots of threads.
Despicable woman.
Odd use of the word ‘savage’ to describe a fraudster.
I don’t rembener the Guinness four ever being described as a ‘savages’.
Mega corrupt bankers who defrauded £Billions of pounds and misled millions of people, and brought the world to the edge of financial ruin, are regarded as chancers by TTT.
But anyone who made a bogus claim in relation to Geenfell for a few £thousand quid are ‘Savages’.

No one like fraud, but the ‘Savages’ label is pure stupidity in this instance.
As an 'in joke' in a News thread it's pathetic really.
but the ‘Savages’ label is pure stupidity in this instance.

yep

As an 'in joke' in a News thread it's pathetic really.

and yep.
in-jokes are inevitable when you have cliques, though, Mamyalynne :-)

But yes, she's a fraudster, not a mugger. Do fraudsters ever get caught the first time they do anything? People can't be checking up on each other 24/7. It's how quickly they act at the first whiff of something unusual that counts.

Kensington and Chelsea council "shocked", eh? I never thought I'd read that.
It's interesting to note how the wording of a thread can influence the way a reader initially thinks about the contents of the news item prior to reading it. For example, after looking at the wording I immediately, rightly or wrongly, thought that another "person of colour" had been found to have been falsely obtaining money destined for legitimate victims of the disaster.
Strange how often in financial criminality money’s were spent on online gambling. None traceable maybe? Check under The floorboards...
//after looking at the wording I immediately, rightly or wrongly, thought that another "person of colour" had been found to have been falsely obtaining money destined for legitimate victims of the disaster. //

Upon reading the heading I thought someone had been murdered.
Gosh darn it, Naomi24, that goes to prove that you have a much vivider imagination than what I do:)
Me? Imagination? Nah. It woz the 'savage' wot dunnit.

sanmac: "....after looking at the wording I immediately, rightly or wrongly, thought that another "person of colour" had been found to have been falsely obtaining money destined for legitimate victims of the disaster. " - with assumptions like that I'm amazed that TROB haven't jumped down your throat with accusations of racism! "savages" come in all colours!
Please can my name no longer be related to the misuse of the word 'Savage'?

Thank you.
/// "We apologise to the survivors and families for any distress this may cause." ///

Why should it cause stress to them in particular? Surely the ones who should be distressed and apologised to, are the good council tax payers of Kensington and Chelsea Council.

Questions will be asked and heads will roll, but I doubt it.
Exactly AOG, the whole sorry mess falls on the tax payer for all these frauds.

This low life was a finance manager, she wold undoubtedly have known the system and how to bypass it. This happens in business too despite their rigorous checks (Leeson for example). What many finance companies do is force employees to take two weeks holiday during which they must not enter the building or log in. This often unearths most internal frauds but of course the fraud could have gone on a while.

I wondered how she managed to get another job. Aren't references checked these days?
I don't think it's clear, hellywelly, whether she was dismissed from the council for the frauds or whether she resigned before the crimes came to light, before she got her later job with a charity.
