Changing font

How do I change the font of my questions/answers. I don't seem to be able to change font colour or type in bold or italics. I've seen other people do it (well font colour at least) is there a trick I'm missing? Thanks.

gen2 how did you make "Corby's old post" red?

links automatically appear in red feebal (if you make them bold, they're even redder) but you can't make them change colour yourself
