I am traveling to Sydney, Australia in November and would like to know if it is best to stay in the Kings Cross district, which of my knowledge is 20 mins from town but has a good nightlife, or in the centre, where i am much nearer to everything? Will the extra traveling from Kings Cross be expensive? Or is the area better than the centre? Any help would be great. Thanks

Depends on budget and tastes etc.

When I was travelling I headed towards Kings Cross and spent one night there, and promptly packed up and left in the morning. I moved to the CBD and there are a number of large hostels in the CBD which is walking distance to Circualr Quay / Darling Harbour / Shops. I forget the name of the hostel, but there are a number of large ones all very close.

We did go out in Kings Cross, and from memory transport wasn't very expensive.
If you are a female travelling on yr own Kings Cross could be a bit dodgy. I stayed in both Kings Cross and the City just near China Town and if my memory serves me correctly it was not too strenuous a walk during day time but a cab ride in the evening for sure. Check out the Buddha Bar in Kings Cross if it's still there!!! Your best bet would be to find a hostel on George Street and surrounding areas which is the main street through the city centre. There are plenty of bars and hostels along this road as it's really long!!!!!
