As they say - there is no such thing as a free lunch - so anyone promising you a cheap option will be making shortcuts somewhere.

I believe you get what you pay for - once i got my BT broadband set up, which was a nightmare I have to say - I've had faultless service since, and excellent backup from the support staff.

If you are happy with BT, stick to them.
Stick with BT, I e mailed them for advice on a technical problem and received help within 5 minutes.
Work on the basis...if it ain`t broke, don`t fix it...you`re happy with BT, no problems. As Andy says, the cheapest option is not always the best.
might be worth having a look here

and have a browse for user reviews etc.?
Im with supanet which is universally reviled, but have had no problems whatsoever and good speeds with no download restrictions.
I was with supanet - had all sorts of connection problems. When it was on, it was good, and even though I had an upper usage limit, I was never charged for exceeding it.
I've recently change to eclipse, which is cheaper and more stable.
Im currently with NTL and had no problems with them.... apart from around 11pm each night the internet seems to die for about 30mins.

Other than that, ive heard good things about the free orange broadband. Im was very sceptical of orange when it was first announced but from what ive heard from the lads at work its excellent. The download/upload speeds are great. There are no problems with disconnecting etc. Only problem is you need to have an orange contract phone!
