Cheapest doesn't mean best. We're with BT and very pleased with them.
We use BT as well and very happy.
If you don't want a contract you'll have to settle for a dongle. The best service depends very much on where you live. Some areas get only very slow and patchy connection via dongle.
Everyone wants something for nothing!
I'm with BT but think they're the dregs.
My woman is presently with plusnet and seems ok with them.
A broadband comparison site is your best bet.
Out of interest, why don't you like BT, O_G? I guess we're lucky in that we're in an area with fibre-optic connections, it's really fast and I have no complaints.
lol OG...............BT own PlusNet.
They are still cheaper regardless.

I don't like them from past experience and the way they treat folk. They cut me off once without warning, apparently for not paying a bill I never received. After much delay and many phone calls I got an offer of a gesture, not the compensation I so richly deserved but a gesture to lower the next bill by so much. When the next bill came I found they had lied through their teeth. On phoning up to complain I am told they have applied the reduction to the calls part of the bill IIRC which is always minute and took nothing away from the BB part which is what I had been deprived of. Did not even cover the days I was not provided with service. And they phone you up even if you are on the list for no marketing calls. And to prove they are uncaring, recently I inadvertently put a bill to one side intending to pay it and found it a few days later. Very usual for me. Decided to pay it that very lunchtime. Checked my e-mails to find they had sent me one, not telling me about reductions for quick payment but threatening extra costs if not paid by a certain date, even though no additional service had been provided. They are a lying, uncaring, swindling company in my opinion and the ONLY reason to stay with them is most if not all the rest insist on DD so they can grab your money at their leisure, and are able to do so because so many of the public are foolishly trusting of commercial concerns that the companies can give you a 'take it or leave it because we don't care if you are a customer or not' attitude. And don't even start on their foreign CS who are not technically knowledgeable enough to sort anything for you but fob you off in the hope you won't call again, or maybe in the hope that you will.
I,m with you on this OG,in fact anything with British in a Business title I avoid like the plague, especially BT and British Gas.
That's dreadful OG, I used to work in BT billing and you always sent a bill, a red reminder, a notice of intended disconnection, and if you had a good payment record you also received a courtesy phone call.
To miss all these events was very unfortunate...........
craft: Yes BT do own Plusnet...but it is run completely separately eg Customer services: BT in India, Plusnet in Yorkshire, wildly different tariffs, Much better customer feedback for Plusnet etc
Crikey OG, you have been unfortunate. We're with BT and no problems
I've had BT broadband for about 10 years and have needed technical help maybe half a dozen times.
I have difficulty in understanding some of the people in the India call centres so I just tell them what the problem is and give them remote access to my PC.............every problem has been resolved within minutes.
I'm with Ginge on this one, I've just left Virgin due to terrible customer care and gone to Plusnet. Plusnet e-mail and text you when they are going to do something and then e-mail and text again when they have done it. Customer care= brilliant and, being from Yorkshire, it nice to hear a pleasant voice when/if you call them.
