The BBC’s first streaming of UHD pictures from Russia is now running via the iPlayer - and very nice they look too - the best football pictures I’ve ever seen on a TV. Even with my 200mbps Virgin connection it’s buffered a couple of times though - must be a bottleneck somewhere.

It was a doddle to connect my TV to the stream - but ... it is only Uruguay v Egypt - I have a theory that getting access to the England matches might be a tad more difficult - if not impossible for most domestic users.

Bit of a faux pas by the commentator. ‘Disallowed goal’ that actually hit the side netting. He must be watching from that ludicrous stand behind the goal about a quarter of a mile from the pitch
Well done Dave, I have to say there are some things I like to watch in Hi-rez like movies etc... football not top of the list.

You’d need an oxygen mask and a telescope if you were at the back of that, ichy
Picture on iPlayer seems poor to me. Do you have to do something to turn on the UHD?

Picture on HD (with football mode) is far better than the on I have on iPlayer.
Stands seem to have a lot of empty seats.

Arky - I’m a techy rather than a footie fan - so if I’m going to watch it may as well look nice :)

The iplayer can detect if you have a fast enough connection and suitable equipment - it then offers you the UHD stream if it has capacity - otherwise you get the usual SD stream
Doesn’t the UHD only kick in with a fast connection and particular screen resolution?
Or an over priced Sky subscription (not for NBB admittedly) :-)
BBC not NBB(!)
Ah, I see the problem. From the BBC website:

We are pleased to announce a new cutting-edge trial which will see all 29 of BBC One's World Cup matches available in Ultra HD and High Dynamic Range (HDR) on BBC iPlayer - but fans should grab their seats early as there is a limited number of spaces available (tens of thousands) for each game.

The Ultra HD stream will be available from the BBC iPlayer home screen as soon as programme coverage begins until the trial is full for that match.

Not a lot of cop then and forget the England games !
Yes sad to see those empty seats. Wouldn’t have happened in England (mutter mutter)
Over priced seats and very underpaid locals I’m afraid
Panama v Tunisia will be the one to go for :-)
