I'm looking for a holiday and suspect I'll return to a trusted old faithful hotel. I used to sneer at people who returned to the same place time after time and now I find it's like putting on a comfy cardi of reassurance that you know what you are going to get and enjoy yourself.

It has got me wondering though, how do you choose your holiday resorts and hotels?

Are you wanting a new experience every time or do you like the comfort blanket of familiarity?

Being lucky enough to live by the coast and having a decent garden, I prefer city breaks and cultural activities when I go away. I am often inspired by an article I've read about a place or an exhibition or by a documentary on TV.

If not we just think of an area in the UK that we haven't been to before, book a cottage and go exploring. Just back from a week in south yorkshire and north lincolnshire. Who'd have thought that Hull could be so interesting!
Repeat visits have been to London, obviously, Amsterdam and Barcelona, otherwise we go somewhere new each time.
