As a kid I often used to hear tales of 'heroism' (as they seemed to me), that involved stopping a runaway horse and it was always something that I'd wanted to do myself.

A few years ago I actually got to do it when a horse got loose in Rotten Row, on the edge of Hyde Park, and was about to run out into traffic. I somehow managed to grab hold of its reins and hang on to it. It was only once I'd done so, and found myself perilously close to its rear hooves as it kicked out, that I questioned the wisdom of my actions!

(The lady who the horse belonged to, who'd set off in pursuit of it on the back on another horse, was extremely grateful though).
