There have been continual calls for something to be done on the recent epidemic of stabbings thought to be gang related. It is now alleged that the Police have a database to help combat gangs which Amnesty is bleating about 'ooman rights and 'illegal'

Whilst I am not totally comfortable with some of the allegations of it's use surely now is not the time for Amnesty to be shouting about this? OK 3/4 of the alleged gang member are black on the database, but maybe that represents the gang culture - does anyone actually know? It's no use comparing it to percentages of ethnicity of the population as a whole thats apples and pears.

//Amnesty found that the number of black men on the Matrix is disproportionate.//
That is because the number of black gangs is disproportionate.Pity that Amnesty has not got more serious matters to concentrate on.

From Amnesty's list > 13% of the population of London is Black, & 87% of the people on the Database are Black.
Can they not draw any other conclusion than that the list is 'flawed'? Even if 50% of those on the list are there incorrectly (a VERY high estimate) it still means over 43% of people on the list are Black out of just 13% of the population. I have been thinking of making a comment on AB that every one of the recent stabbing victims shown on TV was Black. I didn't do it as I thought it was certain to be banned as racist. Now Amnesty have done it for me.
We had the same with 'Stop and Search', 80% of those stopped and searched were Black, so it was branded as 'Racist' and stopped. Now it looks to have been justified.
I think we need to ask ourselves what percentage of stop and search events resulted in arrest or cautions.

And were the figures better than those for targeted intelligence-led operations?

Further to this gangs matrix database - it has 3,806 entries, with 5% in the red category, the highest risk of committing violence, and 64% in the green, the lowest. How is the data on those in the green category being used?

If the algorithms being used are robust enough, and this leads to better intelligence, then all for the good. At the end of the day, if this saves lives - it’s a positive move, but whenever data is being captured about individuals, we need to be sure that it is not flawed, and that people are not being unfairly identified as high risk by some secret set of data points.
Amnesty international....Pah!
‘Amnesty found that the number of black men on the Matrix is disproportionate’

Mmm. Strange that.
According to popular myth black men are 'disproportionate'. It's what keeps them so popular with the ladies.
Bit sexist.

I couldnt agree more.
I have no problem with the Police keeping data of people who have committed crimes. The problem with this database is that the majority on it are law abiding people. Being put on a list because you know someone who has committed a crime is not acceptable. And to do that to children is doubly dodgy.
