35d Tastes (et backwards) but not sure about the stone
20d Amos? (R)ams [+o?]
Is this themed with missing/additional letters for example?

Gill55/Calibax
Thanks for your help.
Gill55 - I was flirting with ‘tastes’ but it was the ‘stone’ bit troubling me too.
Calibax - instructions say ‘clues omit parts of answers to entered in grid’; Your o in Amos is an example I think.
Perhaps you do need to be a genius for this brute!
8d Si[ckl]e?
I have IDENT for 33A on the basis that it is an anagram of "EDIT" with the "N" being the highlightable (is that a word?) letter. I also think that "TASTES" is right. "ET" is the overturned alien, "ST" is the stone and the "A" and the"S"are the highlightable letters. I have "SLICER" for 8d but I can't parse it. I have all the checked letters and the "L" and the "I" seem to be the only ones that make up a word. By the way, it helps if you can indicate any letters you already have.
Further to the above, Richard Feynman's field of study was Quantum Mechanics. I'm guessing that the highlights appear in the bottom right of the grid but I can't make it work. I haven't found all 23 of the clues which give the missing letters either!
Question Author
RocW - thanks for your input; I’m with you on slicer for 8d but not sure about it ; likewise ident for 33a; it certainly looks like ‘quantum’ something that we’re looking for.
I can fill the grid with what I have now so I’ll try reviewing all the clues to find the 23.
Usually challenging, this one, but this week it’s a brute.
Grateful to you all for your help, thanks.
