/// Naomi, I would agree with the policy of the New York police if they had had any suspicion or terrorist activities before planting undercover officers. ///

And don't you think that 9/11 was a good enough wake-up call?
AOG, I am not going to argue with you.
danny, I'm not paranoid but I'm not stupid enough to ignore the plain fact that this problem has arisen and continues to arise as a direct result of the actions of people who follow Islam and therefore Muslim establishments, especially those that teach, should be monitored.
The Italians will be in for a bumper payout.
Liberal Mayor + Liberal Judge + Fascist Muslims. What could possibly go wrong.
Naomi, as I said, I agree with you provided that there is some suspicion of terrorist activity.
danny, //Muslims are coloured. //

I'm not sure where you got that from.

//I agree with you provided that there is some suspicion of terrorist activity. //

You have to look to spot it.
And there endeth the argument :-)

I was not arguing.
ANOTHEOLDGIT, how many leads were discovered by the NYPD as a result of their surveillance?
So much for ‘something must be done’. When even the first base of surveillance fails, the second base that is the clamouring to lock up all suspects isn’t even on the horizon.

I’m not really sure why the NYPD were doing the surveillance, isn’t that the job of the CIA?

/// ANOTHEOLDGIT, how many leads were discovered by the NYPD as a result of their surveillance? ///

That doesn't mean that they should cease trying, the next attempt may prevent yet another terrorist attack.

Does that mean they shouldn't, maybe if they discovered a plot, they might then say, "Nothing to do with us, it's the CIA's job".
I’ve no idea what that means AOG.
From another link,

'The program started in 2002 or earlier and was disbanded in 2014.

The NYPD spied on at least 20 mosques, 14 restaurants, 11 retail stores, two grade schools, and two Muslim student associations in New Jersey alone,” Farhana Khera, executive director of the group Muslim Advocates, told reporters in a conference call on Thursday.

The program “never produced a single lead,” Khera also said.'

In a twelve-year period they must have spied on dozens, possibly hundreds of folk and not one lead was produced.

It's cost them more than a million dollars in legal costs and damages for this one case alone, with nothing to show for it.

If they're looking for terrorists, do you really think they did a good job and should have been aĺowed to carry on?
THECORBYLOON , following 9/11, if you were looking for potential terrorists, where would you look?
I'd have thought the NYPD would have had an idea but they don't appear to have been concentrating on the right ones do they?

If the Metropolitan Police or MI5/6 had been equally as bad at identifying leads, would you not be criticizing them?
What was the point of law being argued?

Perhaps the poster who knows everything about the law and nothing about Islam will tell us.
THECORBYLOON , you haven’t answered my question, but that’s no surprise. Nevertheless, I’ll answer yours. Regardless of success rates, no, I wouldn’t be criticising our police for keeping mosques etc., under surveillance. My safety and society’s security takes precedence over anyone’s foibles, religious or otherwise. Doesn’t yours?
