Garaman, I agree there was a good chunk of arrogance involved, although in my youthful naivete that didn't impinge on my consciousness until a decade or a few later. I remember it very well although I can't recall exactly which individuals (e.g. politicians and such) or media were putting it about, but the more tabloidy press was almost certainly the in the majority given that was what I had more access to among other students. Someone with the time and inclination to review the archives should have no trouble locating the relevant coverage. Incidentally, in case perhaps you felt my description was aimed at you personally you would be entirely wrong.
