Which film begins with some king of massacre on a wedding day, possibly ending up with the bride being shot, set somewhere abroad. (It could be Captain Correlli's Mandolin but I'm not sure)

How old is the film ? It sounds like the Wilbur Smith story "Eagle in the sky". The bride is blinded and the groom is disfigured. (Set in Israel).
