Do you know what this mysterious object is? The object turned up in a charity shop in south-western France a few days ago. After someone spotted a stamp on the bottom of the object saying “Made in England”, the image has been shared widely on Social Media in the UK - but with no definitive answer.

The object is made of plastic, is very lightweight, and sealed at both ends. The bottom red bit is a clenched hand (if you look closely, you can just make out the fingers) and does not detach from the cream-coloured tube above.

Can AB solve the puzzle?

Astute analysis, rowanwitch
looks like a giant flute, or some musical instrument, other than that no idea.
Bhg....yours is the closest idea to mine....best I could come up with was for holding pierced ear earrings......but they'd slide down together and be a faff to get a pair out... anyway it's not very glam.....and would probably fall over with the weight....

But like you say.....whatever it holds has to be something that needs to be inserted into the hole and is then secured behind the slots...isn't too heavy and it's driving me nuts!!!!!
I agree with david small, it looks like something from a long forgotten children's game.
If those are holes it could be a novelty toothpick holder.
It does, Vulcan.....but it has to be post second world war because of the plastic....I think......and as most abers were around then one of us would surely remember it...... ;-)
this is what it reminds me of..
