Think hobnail boots is an English expression - up here in haggis land we called them tackety boots.
Ooh thank you for the BA Jackdaw.

Tackety boots was another term used on Tyneside. We have a lot of expressions derived from Scotland. For example, we say bairns for children, elsewhere it's usually kids.
In Cornwall there is a lane in St Agnes that describes the noise of hobnailed boots, worn by the Tin Miners, as they walked to the workings down a steep bank.

Always knew them as Blakeys. Used to rip the lino to shreds when they got low so my father banned them in the house.
