The birdwatchers (OK - 'the drinkers') are planning our Autumn trip to Ireland - we'd like to explore a bit further North than our usual Westport base and are looking for a small cottage/apartment/shed in Sligo or South Donegal.

Preferably in (or very near) somewhere with a choice of bars/restaurants.

Ideas please?

[ or email to [email protected] if there are personal links you don't want on display ]

Ideas on other things to do/see in the area also welcome.

Cheers

What about hiring a horse-drawn gypsy caravan thingy.

What could go wrong?

Very romantic, wolfy, but we are all of an age where our backs require a decent mattress and other frailties mean we prefer 'facilities' beyond the bucket/hedge level ...
You speak for yourself, SD!.... ;-)
How about Newport...? Good for fishing can't speak for the Irish feathered population...Good for Achill Island too.
Try and get Gaeltacht area. Teac Jack is a popular place to eat, dine and sleep in and plenty of wee pubs along that road.

My friend has a house in the Gaeltacht so will ask her any to do, to see places but I do think you would need a car.
DT...I'm going to get your post removed before you give Dave ideas....I have too many relatives in Newport....most of them Guards which would mean behaving...and one cranky cousin-in-law I'd like to avoid.... ;-)

Been to Achill and lovely though it is I don't find it worth the drive.....Dave is looking for unexplored places...he may not know that yet.....but he is...... :-)
the Isle of Man perhaps???? xx

Hmmmm....I'm afraid, along with Malta, that's on my never to visit list, DT.....I can see Dave throwing me out of the birding group... :-(

Hang on, gness. Dave likes motor bikes, there's always the TT races.
Tony.....I don't care what Dave likes......the birders are not going there...so there!!!!!... ;-)
Ok Ok.

theres always next year I suppose.
No......there isn't.......x
Doh
Charlestown or Tubbercurry in Sligo. You can go birdwatching up mass hill. Really really pretty.
