Long and short of this....the daughter, 19, over here has been having a number of medical issues.

* signs in her body of a past virus, pneumonia related
* signs of something gut-wise that landed her in hossie last Friday for observation - nothing found, an endoscopy the missing part of the diagnostics equation to be held - perhaps some signs of a psychological situation
* today, over to the chiropractor, some skeletal issues following a car crash nine months ago - acupuncture across the upper shoulders and massage of the lower back around L13 and L14 and below.

Now complaining of a pain across her chest and over her heart.....anybody any experience of this, my view that it's a play-up on an upper chest nerve??

my goodness poor lass has been through it !
if the chiropractor did some manipulation, it might just be temporary as things (eg ribs) realign. But it could be a dozen oher things.

My opinion is that the C3 or C4 brachial is playing up in response to the acupuncture..........
When is her next appointment?
Thank you again for a full and informative history.
"massage of the lower back around L13 and L14 and below."
That I am sure is just a mistype as you really mean L3 and L4 (easily done)

In direct answer to your question, the exacerbation of symptoms following massage for "skeletal issues" is surprisingly common and is, in my opinion, the rule rather than the exception......put simply massage often makes things worse initially and this can be apparent in the first few days following treatment. Thankfully it is usually temporary.
The chest problem seems muscular rather than nerve entrapment as the mid thoracic area is not that a common site for disc or nerve problems.
Monitor the situation with the normal dose of Ibuprofen ( my normal dose ;-).
Widening the post, i am glad that all the investigations have proven to be within normal limits.
It is now a matter of "waiting and seeing" hoping that it will not develop into a psychosomatic situation so common in modern folk, particularly girls, in these modern times.

thanks all, that is my concern, Sqad, shades of Munchausen to it all...but with the physical factors manifested. We also landed a stool sample with some blood in it and this has gone into the hossie and her consultant. We'll see what today brings (it's a bit like that at the moment) - next appointment is Tuesday afternoon, ummmm. The good news is that we do seem to be getting at the roots of this, namely the after effects of a virus and the consequences of whiplash from a car accident back in May and general battering from Taekwondo sparring - she is 2nd Dan but as the doc/chiro said, she doesn't have that much muscle/fat on her frame to help deflect the incoming from nailing her skeleton.
^ In her situation I would think very seriously about giving up the Taekwando .
According to me, the side effects of chiropractic treatment is none if you are considering a well licensed and experienced chiropractor.
You should choose a care center which is specialized in it and provide optimum treatment.
I would recommend you prefer chiropractor north york once. They are well known for treating such chronic pains along with improving biomechanical and musculoskeletal functions.
