Good idea but surely we can't recycle what we have now, this will only increase the problem unless we build our own recycling plants.

If we can't recycle what we have now it makes a mockery of the local authority collecting the decent sized perfectly serviceable landfill waste bins back for recycling, and putting out new small waste bins instead; claiming that it'll encourage more recycling. (Of course what it'll probably encourage is wasted private trips to the tip by car, and fly-tipping.)
Reusing bottles was a fine idea and ought not to have been dropped. It'd be more sensible to use glass rather than plastics that need dealing with.
I think the company’s that produce/manufacture the plastic items should be taxed on the amount they produce/use, then that money could be used to help with recycling costs.
It would also maybe force them to come up with a better alternative to using plastics.
It feels to me as if it’s being made our fault, but if I buy a bottle of “barley water” and when finished put it in my recycle bin and then it end up in the Indian Ocean or somewhere else then they should be looking at why that has happened and sort it so it doesn’t happen again.
‘I think the company’s that produce/manufacture the plastic items should be taxed on the amount they produce/use’

From the article:
‘The Norwegian government decided the best method would be to put a tax on every bottle that's not recycled - then leave the operating details of the scheme up to business’

Something has to start to be done and, if it is adopted, this would be a good start.
Cheers zac, I missed that bit
A ZM says, got to start somewhere. I am however always sceptical of a tax, Governments start relying on it and then when the desired effect has taken place the Government is short of brass.

I think we should be building recycling plants in the UK, they are expensive though so will need some subsidy.
Excellent idea !
