One theory connects it with Latin stuprata, fem. past participle of stuprare "have illicit sexual relations with," or Late Latin strupum "dishonor, violation." But evidence for this is wanting and others suggest Middle Dutch strompe "a stocking," or strompen "to stride, to stalk" (as a prostitute might a customer). Yes it has an asterisk because you have to submit a clue to ‘strumpet’. It is not ‘stride’. Thank you your help everyone.
It is the entry at 15ac for which you have to write a full clue, including a one-word definition of the entry at 6dn. To identify which of the possible solutions for 15ac is the right one, you need to find its one-word definition in the clue that appears at 15ac ('Mostly unfeeling on the whole, the US kind is called a hooker'), for which Chambers or the Collins online dictionary will help.
('Strumpet' was the one-word definition of 6dn, the full clue for which appeared at 15ac)

Spoffy thank you but I know all that and Chambers does not help.

The ‘P’ in ‘hospitale’ - 4dn leaves 15ac as STRIP- Chambers gives no connection between this word and hooker or harlet.
The definition of the entry at 15ac is 'kind', and the term is of American origin.
The solution at 15ac has nothing to do with strumpets - you've already used 'strumpet' as the one-word definition of 6dn.
