With my old phone's answering machine, when somebody was leaving a message if you picked up the phone you could speak to the person calling. With my current one (a Binatone, which otherwise works well) you can't do that, which is very frustrating if it's something important. Is it likely that there will be a setting I can change so I can 'break into' a message and speak to the caller? I probably have the instruction leaflet that came with the phone, but no idea where I've put it!

Surely if you press the answer button on the phone handset. You can speak to caller & the answer machine will cut out.
The same thing happens with my BT 8600.
Does anyone else have BT 8600 phone and if so, do you know how to interrupt the answer machine as a message is being recorded so that I can speak directly to the caller? Lifting the handset no longer works and the user guide is no help.

What's the model number? It's probably on the base.

Thank you for that, Chico. I'll give it a try.
My answering machine has been playing up ever since I married her.
You need to turn her off (probably not difficult in your case) and then turn her on again (or perhaps get the milkman to do it), Talbot ;-)
Actually that sounds the more practical solution (the answerphone not the missus). I should get into the habit of leaving it switched off when at home and on if I go out.

Ta for the replies. It's a Binatone Luna 1120S - still can't find the leaflet....
@Chico. Thank you so much for providing the link to the online manual. There is so much more information there than is in the instruction booklet. I've now managed to solve a few problems thanks to that. No wonder I was going mad.

Found it!
Having spent ages going through everything in my desk and elsewhere, have at last found the instruction leaflet. It then took me quite a while to find: "When a person is leaving a message, if you want to pick up the call you can press (on the handset) and the message recording stops automatically." I assume that's the answer, but will have to wait till the next time I want to 'break in' to a message. Hope this is of help to others.

^^ For some reason TALK ON was omitted from the above post - that's what you press on the handset
