Hi Chaps

I'm in the process of moving my current account to NatWest, and also have a new associated NatWest credit card - the bribe of £125 to switch was too good to miss, and both accounts have decent cashback too.

With my old bank debit and credit cards I can see 'pending' transactions as soon as I carry them out - very useful when using a contactless card as it means I'd see any errors/fraud very quickly. I can also see 'pending' direct debits on the day before they are actually collected from my current account.

Can anyone confirm whether either/both of these facilities are available via the NatWest online and/or mobile sites?

Hi SD... No they don;t have that facility. It shows your balance at that moment but takes a day or so for each individual transaction to show. I think the contactless ones can take u to 4 days to show. I never use that myself because of that.

I.m with HSBC. Pending transactions will show any credits or DDs but will not show standing orders or card payments. Not really a problem for me because if I use my card my available balance will be less than my balance until the payments appear in my account.
With NatWest, your account will show the 'available' balance which tells you how much you can spend today and will include pending payments such as debit card (POS) transactions but will exclude recent contactless card payments. There are also differences in the way that items are treated over weekends and bank holidays. See links in the following:-

Thanks mazie & spath - looks like the NW card is one to save for easy to track purchases with reputable vendors - fortunately I've got another couple of cards I can use for 'out and about' shopping as they update instantly.

Yes, jackdaw, I have similar info from First Direct - useful but not a deal breaker if I don't get it from NatWest.

I'm quite cross with FD - who are an excellent bank with A1 customer service - I've been with them since they started well over 25 years ago now, yet (when I phoned to see if they would make any effort to stop me defecting to NatWest) they offered absolutely zilch incentive to stay. But will give rate tarts and serial account hoppers £100 to join.

Once again loyalty is worth less than nothing in the financial services sector.

I was unaware that contactless payments were not taken into account in the available balance. However that is a facility I never use so san fairy ann.
