Went to a funeral today of a fellow member of U3A. He was a very private man, joined in various activities but always in the background. He never mentioned his home life at all.
What a relevation.. He spoke fluently 8 languages, had a first class honours degree in sciences. Worked on Concord, translated ancient French texts, was involved in architecture, kept a detailed diary for about 50 years, filed every bill, receipt and letter he had ever received. Was an extensive traveller, there was barely a country he hadn't visited.
Everyone who went today were gobsmacked.
So do not assume you know people!

Kind of sad he didn't share his memories with friends but if that's how he wanted it then he got the life he desired.

Glad he got a good send off Caran.
Okay, I'll try not to.

He really got a good send off Mamya. All this knowledge came from the eulogy his family provided. We didn't know he had any family either.
Never judge a book by its cover...

But if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck ... its PROBABLY a duck.

;-)
Sounds a very interesting man.
Question Author
Yes Mamya he could have been. If he had shared his life with people. He lived alone, lived his life alone. We knew nothing of his life. He wouldn't be brought out of his little world.
But he was an interesting man just because he chose not to share it does not make him any less interesting.
Don't you love people like that Caran, unassuming x
