It is almost impossible to buy fruit and veg by the kg as everything is wrapped in plastic....Anita Roddick used to stand at the check out and remove packaging and leave it there....If we all did this then supermarkets would be forced to go back to allowing us to buy 2 potatoes , for example, rather than 4 or 6...that would save us having food go off and avoiding the...

Wouldn't be a grand idea, you'd still want to separate items, so need snother type of container. Folk who make a fuss at the till simply inconvenience other behind them.
Plastic is combustible & heat from incinerating it could be put to good use, in a controlled environment.

it could, one guy has come up with idea of using it with tarmac, and apparently the results are very good.
Mally..."almost impossible......"? I don't know where you've tried (and failed) to buy loose fruit and vegetables....but most of the stuff in Waitrose is loose...
I burn plastic in my fireplace. The only things I bin is glass & metals.

it is, going on that i get my shopping on line now, and that often comes with lots of plastic packaging.
Picked up two grapefruit (loose) from Asda. When I got to the checkout the assistant went to put them into a plastic bag. Seemed surprised when I said I didn't want a bag.

if more people carried bags with them, then there wouldn't be half as much waste.
Like you Emmie I mainly shop online - I order veg in small amounts, 2 baking pots, 3 carrots, one leek etc.

Sometimes they come in a brown paper carrier which a barcode added to one of each and other weeks they all have their own plastic bags, seems to depend on the whim of the packer.

Some consistency there would be a start.
