Have had a letter off Mercedes regarding a potential problem with accidental airbag deployment . I rang my local dealer to have my car booked in to get the fix. The girl said it wasn’t a problem at the moment, and to get the car booked in if I get a airbag warning light come on. Isn’t this defeating the object. I’ve read why this problem can occur. So it’s wait till the airbag explodes whilst driving or a airbag light comes on, which ever comes first????

What did the letter advise?
insist it is fixed NOW
Bob....what does the letter say you should do ?

If it says that this is a recall, then go back to the dealer, wave the letter about a bit, and demand that they deal with it !
//Mercedes-Benz recalls 400,000 cars over airbag fault
The recall will apply to A-Class, B-Class, C-Class, E-Class and CLA models built between November 2011 and July 2017//

The same fault that many car manufactures have recalled many cars for.

Possibly faulty airbags manufactured by Takata.

Basically as above. It’s been found out that there can be potential static discharge from the clock spring. ( thought that was part of the ESP mechanism. ) breaking, setting off the airbag. An additional earth is required. But everything is OK, drive as normal, only phone the emergency number supplied if the airbag light comes on.
In that case the local dealership appear to be acting correctly in response to the 'recall'.
:-)
Yes, I would agree Dougie.
