What gave you the letter 's'?
Guardian quick?

Which day, can't see it in the past 3 days grids.
I think it is a Local Guardian, Mamya; Bernie was having the same problem earlier today.
Ta Cap'n

A Kist is a container/coffin , but not heard of it as a basket.
...and a kish is a basket for turf, not fish!
I think you had it all along with Kish then

http://www.mariner.ie/kish/
in Ireland during the 18th century as a description for a basket that carried turf. It became a unit of measurement in this respect but whether that measurement became universal or varied with sizes is not known. Adapted, the same baskets could easily have been used to catch fish and shellfish
Yes, it probably is kish
Well done, all the definitions I found were nowhere near that.

I know mamyalynne cant get ans to fishing basket k?s?
Look up. ^^^^^^
Bradford gives "bass" as a definition of basket.

DYOR.
If the pattern K?S? is correct the Elliemay has it with 'Kish'
ve the 'K' comes from Kick up a racket, referring to the tantrums of MacEroe
I don't think V_E is really interested given his casual sign off.
I thought the Bradford reference satisfied the clue requirements exactly, Mamya.

I had noted that the intersecting letters were disputed.

Casually yours,

etc etc.
