I am guessing that the second-hand car dealers will be having a bumper start to 2018, as that is an awful lot of cars. Nobody injured thank goodness.

It's a wonder that this hasn't occurred before. The tight parking and low ceilings, coupled with all the external plastic on modern cars will spread fire easily.

most such fires are arson, DTC, but spontaneous combustion does happen in a significant minority of cases.

I've not seen it reported yet, but there's been something of a twitter storm today involving virgin trains, and a family whose train tickets were police-cordoned into a hotel because of the fire, where despite proof of purchase, virgin were looking to them to buy new tickets.....

Rtaxron....my experience of insurance companies, is that they argue to the toss as long as they can....such is life !

we had one down here a couple of years ago, kno, an open air bus depot at Summertown went up on a windy night, 19 buses I think.....thought to be arson, never proven, possible insurance job it was mooted.

Maybe, despite what the fire guy said, sprinklers would be of little use in a fuel and plastic fire.
You don't launch gallons of water at a fire involving highly flammable liquids.
