My friend’s husband died earlier in the year, but despite having two grown up daughters neither have invited her for Christmas and so she will be alone. She’s very hurt and understandably so. Do you have thoughtless children, or even children you feel don’t care about you and don't bother with you? I find it terribly sad.

How old is your son mallyh?
I find this very sad, how could they leave her alone at this time of year ..... When Dad died there was no question of leaving Mum alone at Christmas, none whatsoever. I do feel for her, but who knows maybe there's time yet? Hope so.
he's forty and a heroine addict I have posted about him before .
this will be my first Christmas, when, due to circumstances beyond my control, I will be without mum and since dad passed away 2 years ago also my first birthday with neither parent...and I am feeling very sad and quite desolate at the prospect..
Sorry mallyh. I know and wasn't thinking.
oh minty big hugs xx
Had the roles been reversed and my father dead not my mother I also would not invite her! Sorry but I didn't like the woman - perhaps there is more to this than the story you are getting!
Have you got plans, minty?xx
There could be, Islay. The lack of communication seems to be both ways.
have been invited to friends Pix, but as the day approaches I feel less and less inclined as my sadness deepens...
I can understand that, minty... so sorry xx you will need a lot of distraction.
Everybody's different - this wouldn't bother me in the slightest!
Not all families are close, and not all parents get on with their adult children, or share the same values and Christmas isn't a special time for year for lots of people. Or perhaps the daughters' partners don't like or get on with her Mum. Nobody should judge, because we don't have the facts. My mum tried very hard to split me and my husband and caused a great rift. No way would I ever have expected her to be with us at Christmas when my Dad died. She always made her own arrangements anyway.
Naomi...dreadful situation for your friend, although I suspect that there is more to this than you may know.

If Xmas isn't a time for families for to come together, I don't what is.

I don't get on my some of my family, but I shall still see them all over the period ( even the ghastly sister-in-law ! )
So thing no better with your son mally? I'm sorry to hear. Re the op, I'm assuming there is a reason why her daughters don't have a good relationship with her, so a one sided view only.
we shall be without mum this Christmas, it will seem sad and very strange...
Since my Mum died, my dad always come to mine. My brother has never once invited his dad to his home for Xmas!!
