Just got a new carpet that has a really thick pile and discovered my Dyson is no good for it as it won't roll. So new hoover it is then. Can anyone recommend one for a very thick pile.

I sympathize, I've just bought a cordless dyson, won't work on a shag pile rug , or lino in kitchen . :-(
Have just had the same issue with a really thick pile new carpet that my Miele wouldn't move over. The solution I had was to open the little shutter on the pipe, designed for curtains etc. It reduces the suction enough for me to move over the carpet. Doesn't a Dyson have that feature?
Sebo, never had a problem on deep pile, just got our second, first lasted 20+ years.

No tried that and now tried Prudies' suggestion will have to check out the Sebo's
i find my G Tech covers any surface, i don't have thick pile, but you don;t have to change settings to go over the concrete.
If I'm reading your problem correctly then our favourite ones are not going to help you. The problem with a thick pile is it forms a seal with the head that doesn't allow air to be sucked in at floor level so gets stuck in one place, the more powerful the suck the less you are going to be able to move it. On a normal setting my miele would not move unless I dragged it with all my strength. You need someone to recommend one they know will sit above a thick pile carpet and still move.
