Your piercer should be able to give you answers to all your questions. Don't be afraid to go in and ask everything you want to ask before you commit to having it done.

I have my bottom lip pierced, and my nose, and they both healed up fine because I am careful about who I let stick needles in me!
having his tongue pierced gave an ex a lisp it went when he took piercing out
I was contemplating getting my tongue pierced and Im not saying this to change your mind or anything but if you are a girl then Ive heard blokes dont find them that sexy but lesbian women do and if youre a bloke then I cant say I find that attractive in a man. But if its something you want done go for it, you can always take it out :-) and as said before any good clean specialist should be able to pierce you and it will be fine as long as you take good care of it after.

Thanks doglady, i have my bottom lip & nose done too and they went fine, im just worried that tongue piercing is more risky!! and i will definately ask lots of questions!

4getmenot thankyou, and thats so true - i can always take it out! my boyfriends already said that he doesnt mind whatever i decide!
Also heard it ruins your teeth as the metal knocks away the enamel. Maybe just have it in for special occasions as I bet I know why your boyfriend wants you to get it done ;-)

thanks for the tip 4getmenot but i think that since i already have my lip done that my teeth are already getting knocked!! so i dont think a little bit of extra metal will do too much harm!
I once met a young girl on a course who had lots of piercings. I asked her about them and what her parents thought.

Basically, she said, everything was pretty straightforward and her parents were cool about the whole thing, but her Dad did put his foot down over her having a tongue piercing. He was a dentist, she said, and had seen far too many mouth infections and dental injuries caused by tongue piercings to allow his daughter to have one done. She had turned 18 since he told her that, but she still decided against it.
I don't have a problem with most piercings ~ but in my opinion the tongue is a big no-no! I know of several people who have had it done and had no end of problems..not being able to eat, infections & teeth problems.

I have heard that it is the most risky of all piercings, but I'm not an expert!

thanks pippa68 & saxyjag, ive also heard lots of horror stories about them. they do seem to be the most risky.
the teeth problems im not so worried about because like ive said above i already have my lip pierced and my teeth havent suffered from that (ive had that done for a year).

i think i just need to get over the fear!!
I had mine done first time was 6 years ago and I did break a tooth at the back of my mouth because after the initial swelling went down I did not change the bar to a smaller one and it moved around alot. Needless to say the dentist would not fill my tooth until I took out the bar!!
Had it done for a second time 3 years ago, I wear a smaller bar with plastic balls on much less damaging!!
There is also a small chance of the piercer hitting a large blood vessel and I was made to sign a disclaimer that I accepted the risk!! Very reassuring lol!!
Well, I've had one for about 8 years now, and never had a problem ! The initial swelling went away after 3 days, during which I could only eat liquid food, or ice cream, and suck ice cubes to reduce the swelling. Along with the usual after care that your piercer will tell you about, you should just follow a normal mouth hygiene. Make sure you go to the best piercer in town, and don't be afraid of spending more for quality ! as for teeth and gums, no problem at all in my case. It's just a matter of choice, I guess. I've never regretted mine, I have to say. It's discreet, doesn't make me speak any different, and most of the time It gets me compliments (if you know what I mean...;-) )
Had mine done bout 3.5 yrs now, didnt hurt having it done, did a few hours later and was like that for 3 days, then swelling went down now its fine. xx
Got me clit pierced too. x
