'morning GG . . .

Quite enjoyable this week, especially having to delve into some fine detail to establish the facts and figures of tunnel lengths which, according to the references I sought, did not quite match the author's measurements.

It was also interesting to note that the closer path to the tunnel is named in its own right as well as the part of the 579 mile long distance path used to locate it.

It also took me some time to establish that the S & GR opened earlier than stated, it being part of a joint venture. (Thought of you clambering up and down your stairs to pore over the railway map).

I trust you . . . and the clutch . . . are well!

Hi there, Flon. Good one this week, but I think you might have gone awry if you think the canal is S &GR - I make it T & S!
Think I've made a convert to 'our' Sunday quiz, as you saw on the other thread....

GG . . . I concur with your answer as to the name of the canal.

It was the date of the arrival of the S&GR railway stated as "1845" and the length of that particular tunnel at "2,800 yds" that took me more time to research/confirm.

The posting does suggest that Tilly may be thinking of taking up the challenge, going forward - if she does - let's hope she gets as much enjoyment out of it as we do? Who knows, if she has entered this week and wins, she can report if the Grand Excelsior in Sorrento has changed much since her last visit!
