The cost of repair will depend upon what's actually broken. An iPad has TWO screens. There's the LCD one which displays everything and then a clear glass one on top of it. If it's just the top glass which is broken, a repair shouldn't be too expensive but if the LCD screen underneath it is broken, then you're looking at spending a lot of money.
Timpson's are notoriously expensive for many things (such as watch batteries, watch straps and engraving), so it might be worth checking prices elsewhere. Your local market might be a good place to try, as there's usually at least one stallholder who offers such a service.
