Hi. I have a Toshiba laptop which recently had to be re-formatted. I used to just be able to close the lid and it went into standby mode, then when I opened the lid again, it "resumed windows". Now when I close the lid, the DC in light flashes orange... when I open the lid again, computer switches off and then goes through the whole starting up windows process...... V frustrating and time consuming..... I have checked the settings, and it is set to go into standby when I close the lid.... Any help out there? Grateful in advance!

Have you checked the Power settings under control panel? For both using battery power and mains power?
A long shot but there may be some software from Toshiba that allows that facility - this may have been lost with the format.

What model is it ?

Hi Hammer - power settings seems okay ...... Billy NM - it's a Toshiba Satellite 1800.
Looks like I may have been right. I stress 'may'

On the Toshiba UK website there are a list of available downloads for hibernation mode and power saving.

Can you bit a little more specific about the model and the operating system ?

Hello again - Windows XP. Am going to look at the Toshiba website now - many thanks for your reply - I'll post later with news.

Eeek! That's a scary list of downloads! My computer is not listed either - it's a Satellite 1800-314........... am a bit lost now!
If you put in all the filters (and your model is there !) you get this list ;

http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin /ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service= UK

I think the minimum you need is the Common Module, Power Saver and Utilities. You may need some of the others such as display driver - you can probably work it out from the dates.

Was any Toshiba CD supplied with the laptop ? If so, these should be on it.

Hopefully that should get you on your way. Let us know how you get on.
Sorry - that link takes you back to the main search.

Just put in the info for Notebook, Satellite, 18xx, 1800-314 and Windows XP.

Hi Billy NM - sorry not to have got back to you before now. Am still struggling - did the Toshiba CD stuff, checked power settings, it still won't go to standby when I close the lid... I get "resume failure" when I open the lid again. Methinks I will get the guy who did the re-formatting to check it out, but will let you know what happens anyway - thank you so much for your help.
Did you load the CD and then download any of the above from the Toshiba website ?

Just wondering as the first one is a 'fix' to get the Toshiba specific functions to work which may be the key.

Hello again. Well, have loaded common module, power saver and utilities from the cd. When I try to get to Display Driver, it comes up with "Within Start-menu right-click [My computer] and select [Properties].
Select the [Hardware] tab and click on the [Device Manager] button.
Right-click on [Video controller (VGA compatible)] and select [Update Driver ...].
Follow the instructions on screen. "...... but - there is no option in the list for VGA and have clicked on everything else to check if it's hidden in somewhere I can't immediately see....... my computer man has gone to ground so am still trying myself, but really don't want to do anything I shouldn't!! I can't see from the download list on Toshiba list anything I should download to get this working. Aaaah, the joy of modern technology!
