Thanks all, it was a serious request which has now gone forward for use in a catalogue.
For fun I just put Google's first attempt; 'Un chevalier à bois' for translation back into Google for English and got 'A Knight on Wood' !
Eeeee, I can remember t'day. :)
My Dad was from Bucks and he always called them goofs which I have never found in any dictionary or list. Perhaps it was just his word for them.
Would be interested to know if anyone else has heard it.
