I have discovered that the original insurance policy documents are missing after having been put into storage but I have photocopies. The premium has been paid faithfully but what would happen in the event of a claim ? I am one of those who mistrust insurance companies because I have good reason to expect they will try to get away from their responsibilities on any pretext (morals not being a burden they carry).

Have you asked for a copy from the insurance company?

What kind of insurance are you talking about?

I would assume that if you have paid all the premiums and have kept all the evidence that these have been paid your policy (whatever it is) will still be valid. However, to reassure yourself you should write to your insurance company, explain the circumstances of the loss of documents and ask for a certified copy. They may charge an administration cost for doing this.
