Okay, I know this is more of a book-related question..but since it concerns food, I'll post it here.

Has anyone read this book called 'Fast Food Nation?' Its about the fast food industry in general, but it focuses on MacDonalds. Some of the things he says in that book made me feel almost sick, and has put me off MacDonalds.

What did you think of it, presuming you've read it?

I think that most of it is true, and that eating fast food of any description is exposing yourself to unpleasentness. I still do, but not often and only when there is little choice. The McLibel trial put me off more on ethical and hygiene grounds
I've just started ready it, is it any good?

I never eat mcdonalds anyway.
And now read 'Not on the Label' by Felicity Lawerence and 'Shopped' by Joanna Blythman.

Doubt you'll buy from a supermarket after that.
Should be 'Lawrence' . . .

In reply to whooever asked: yes, the book makes for an excellent read.

I once met this girl over the internet and her (then) b/f asked me if I had read this book 'Fast Food Nation.' He said 'Once you read this book...you will never, ever eat in Macdonalds again'

I didn't believe him, until I bought the book for myself...and it turns out he was right! At times, the book is too Americanised; it doesn't apply to Britain. But it makes for a fascinating read. In fact, some of the things he says in that book are too disgusting to post on here. But read the book, and you'll see for yourself what I mean.
I've been a veggie for nearly 30 years so I didn't have to give up McDs. My wife isn't a veggie, but she hasn't been in McDs since she read the book.
Eric Schlosser has a new book coming out. It's called Chew on this and is going to look at kids' dietary habits and how they're targeted by fast food manufacturers.
I believe that's also a film of FFN coming out.
