Yep- it's 15 years:-)
that quick huh?
that's only for Platinum members
Oh u still hanging on to your platinum card jno? The eternal optimist.
Dotty uses her platinum card to shoe horn pudgy women into new shoes at work..........

"course they fit madam, just need to be firm............."
;-)
absolutely dot, it means I am still able to post in colours. Only other Platinum members can see them, though.

jno can you turn the colours down a bit? They're a wee bit skyrie.....
sure thing TCL but I think if you just switch on the pastel option on your own screen that should do the trick
Question Author
Is that like the Fruit Gum option?
no, that's when you have your platinum card in the slot and hit the right sequence of keys and you suddenly get sweeties cascading out. Pastilles are different.

The French love them so much, they have a Pastille day!
Leave the French alone, they make very good Wine Gums.

jno I know you live a very colourful life, but pink and yellow? Are you trying to tell us something?
pah, sorry, Octavius, I am still wrestling with these tags. They were meant to be revolutionary red and gang green.
Oh very pass jno. I am setting the trend for the modernist-cum-retro black and white theme.

Incidentally, I joined this thread because I emailed the Ed yesterday saying how sad it was that the site has taken a very embarassing downturn and that learned and long serving contributors must be fleeing in their dozens. Foolishly I expected a reply - it is the first email I have endeavoured to send to AB.

I really don't understand the point of the whole 'who is who' malarky, after all, do we really care? I think most of the people on this thread have been here long enough to see this sort of thing come and go. I cringe at the recent folly of the B&S topic and am fed up with users berating people about asking homework questions, and moaning at those who choose to answer them. I usually do answer them in an informative way by pointing them in the right direction - but even this apparently is wrong.

The reporting facility seems to have no effect, the AB Ed doesn't asnwer emails and ABers are entering a state of anarchy. I suspect the Ed has lost control, either that or she is the one posting all these offensive and ridiculous questions and answers. It is all rather starting to lose it's appeal.
yes, I am unconcerned about who is really who; if they post sense, it doesn't matter who they are; if they post rubbish they can be ignored or reported. But I suspect AB is pretty much a shoestring operation. We don't pay subscriptions, and there are only a banner ad or two and some rather hopeful Google ad links to pay its way. The Ed probably spends half her day just removing the more obnoxious posts and fiddling with techy things. I'm not surprised she doesn't have much time to answer emails - she must get hundreds.

Also, she's said she hopes it functions as a modest online community (a slightly more relaxed view than that of her predecessor); but that implies community policing rather than constant personal intervention by the Home Secretary. It means we have to do some of the work ourselves, which is a decent quid pro quo for getting free use of a helpful website. Thus, if we encounter a post we don't like (not one that's actually offensive or abusive), it's our job to ignore it, not the Ed's job to remove it. This all sounds pretty reasonable to me.
Well in two years of using AB I have had er *counts quickly on fingers* one reply, good luck. I used to get really annoyed about it but recently I've started thinking "you know what, I am so sick of reading the moaning, bitching and complaining on here lately, that I have concidered leaving, imagine what it must be like for poor ED" She isnt here to make us all play nice. Why should UKnetguide care if we dont like each other? (and clearly they dont care whats going on here) they get paid either way.
