It depends on the reasons for them being a veretarian surely??

Fish is different to meat and people that only eat fish and not meat are, I believe, known as pescetarians.

Entirely down to the individuals choice.

Frogy_Queen they aren't the vegeterians, its just one of them conversations thats cropped up in a pub one night & its still ongoing, i've never heard of a pescetarian before though so il throw that into their conversation & see what happens.

my daughter is vegetarian and she says she wont eat anything with a face.

Vegetarians should not eat the flesh of any animal - that includes fish and shellfish.

Vegans will not eat the product of any animal, so will not eat cheese or cream.
My son is a veggie and does not eat any fish at all. It is still the flesh of a living creature
* Vegans eat only foods that are plant-based. This means they consume no meat, poultry, or fish, nor animal products such as milk, cheese, butter, and eggs.
* Lacto-Vegetarians are vegetarians who include dairy products in their diets, but no eggs.
* Lacto-Ovo Vegetarians include both dairy products and eggs in their diets.
* Pollo-Vegetarians include poultry in their diets.
* Pesca-Vegetarians include fish and other seafood in the diet.
* Sometimes-Vegetarians choose mainly a plant-centered diet, with small amounts of animal-derived products consumed less frequently.

fish are animals and therefore a true vegetarian will not eat them - the clue is in the name - VEGetarians.

A true Vegan will not use or wear any product i.e. Leather that has come from an animal. Or use/have any treatment/cosmetic that has been tested on animals.

Classic example (true story):

'Vegan' goes to the dentist for treatment on troublesome tooth. Happens to be wearing a badge stating "No to animal testing". Dentist proceeds to drill offending tooth, and said patient screams "Hey arn't you gonna give me an injection first?" "No" says the dentist, "The novacaine was tested on animals." "Never mind that!" says patient, "I don't wanna feel any pain, not for anyone!"

So, I guess there are not many true Vegans out there.

As I understand it, there is an argument for eating fish by some vegetarians - that fish are caught in their natural environment, as against being reared specifically for slaughter.

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing - merely putting forward the argument.

andy, Your correct in probably most cases, but what about all the fish farms (especially trout), we have in this country?

Name dropping: Roger (The Who) Dawltry has/had a trout farm.......

I see your point n00dles, I think people who subscribe to that particular arguemnt only east sea fish, and avoid trout and salmon.
