Friends is wondering about using Ancestry. This is what they have been told by a relative:

"quite a bit of spam comes with it"

Can sombody tell me the pros/cons etc. so that I can pass it on to them.

depends what you mean by spam: you'll get emails about updates and so forth, but all genealogy sites do this, and it's often very useful.

Ancestry is by some way the biggest and best of the sites.

I will pass on your reply - I could suggest that they use a dedicated email address for it, but can imagine their reply as not wanting another address!

Never had a spam problem with Ancestry

Wife and I both used Ancestry a month or so back. Very good feedback from them, kept us updated. A few emails from them promoting services but nothing OTT. Give it a go.
