I have recently had my big toe nail removed. Is there anyone here who has lost a nail and can tell me what to expect?

has it been knocked or is it an operation?

if it went black and then came off you will likely grow new one, but if a chiropodist has removed the root you won't.

you could buy some false fingernails and use the thumb one - they are often quite big - just for cosmetic reasons

Well, mine grew back surely but slowly. But it depends. I think some people have to have permanent nail removal.
Mine was taken off in an operation but obviously the 'root' remained.
I've had both big toenails removed. one is just flat and feels just like the rest om my toe. the other root wasn't quite fully removed. I've god a hard plastic like surface which looks a bit messy! Hope yours is better!

I had that happen on a thumbnail, tonyted, and indeed it did grow back.

Thanks. I think tonyted's most mirrors mine - infected and lifted as if hinged. Cut off by a surgery nurse.
