The debate in the commons was because a petition about banning him had reached the requisite number of signatures and was never going to be passed. A monumental waste of parliament's time

Of course we should. It matters not what he is like, nor do his politics matter. He is merely the figure-head of the USA as the monarch is of the UK.
Were the queen to be a dribbling idiot (which she isn't) the invitation would be sent. They simply represent powers meeting.
