Abu Hamza - US agencies getting the News wrong?

Having just been on holiday in N America, 2 weeks ago a mainline news story broke about Abu Hamza having been blown-up by a car bomb in Beirut. The picture of the chat with the hook was shown on both CNN and Fox news channels. We thought it a little odd since we thought he is in jail here. Did anyone else see this is the US and what was this car bomb in Beirut? - about 30th May I guess.
