I watch this program every week, did you read about Gloria Hunniford getting ripped of for £120.000, I am not being fictitious here but could you get ripped off for this amount? the members on here I surmise are well over the 60 / 70s, could you be taken for a ride? Eg/ by a gardener / Odd Job Man / Painter / Roofer.

I've been there and he does lawn, seems to flap about with a strimmer here and there, gets given a tray of coffee and biscuits and then handed £40 whether he's been there I hour or two. I've asked old chap why he pays so much and he says oh some weeks he does more than the two hours but he doesn't.

The only problem you have here, is your neighbour may think depending on your relationship with him that you are trying to take over, I would simply point out that you have found a really good gardener that's very good price wise & only charges when he / she is there, I hate these Issues & I will stand their ground when I think someone is getting ripped off. Coming back to the original question,it is not so much a case of would anybody 'fall for it'?

There are simply occasions where clever opportunists strike and their job is made easier by work staff who do not follow their own procedures.

Obviously, some people are rather careless and complacent over banking such as not taking sufficient precautions inputting PIN's or completing bogus links on emails. However,I have witnessed bank staff equally being lackadaisical in their duties.Scamming devices to cashpoints have also been commonplace.

GH had absolutely no control over what happened and the bank refunded her money promptly. It clearly demonstrates that anyone can fall victim to fraud. We can only take the best possible precautions and hope that business technology is one step ahead of the fraudsters but sometimes it's company representatives themselves who leave the door open.

Some scams are so clever any one of us could fall victim to them, as far as I know I haven't as yet.

But we should never be smug and say 'It will never happen to me'.
I like to think I wouldn't get ripped off, but there are so many devious people about.

I take very great care if I get strange people at my door or on the phone.
DB - that's very decent of you! :)
Gloria Hunniford watch

Just watched Rip Off Britain

There was mention of David Bowie's death ... and Gloria didn't mention the death of her daughter.

Yes believe it or not she has appeared on TV without mentioning it.

But to be fair, it has only been twenty-four hours ...

Plenty of time yet!
This particular side reference is getting rather tedious now - has anyone tried working it into a Food & Drink thread yet?
Andy - you're appearing heartless.
Are you suggesting that the side issue should be grubby Mamya?
ummmm - //Andy - you're appearing heartless. //

I fail to see why you would think that.

If anyone is grieving over a loss, be it yesterday, or twelve years ago, they have my utmost sympathy.

If they are constantly trotting it out often without reason, on national TV, then that in my view, is inappropriate, I am entitled to say so, and I have.
Ad infinitum
Maybe 'trotting it out' is part of her grieving process.
