Researching family history in Ireland

I need to search the birth & marriage records in Ireland in order to track down some of my predecesors. I wondered if there was a company of some kind who would go and do the searches for me as I cannot give precise dates and cannot get there myself. If so, how much would it cost me?

Any decent newsagent will have Family History magazines: several titles are published each month. I haven't bought any for a while, but I'm sure they are stuffed with advertisements by people offering to do research. Some will surely be in Ireland. You can discuss costs directly with them - and good luck!

Your best bet is to start at the public records office here and work back methodically - parents are usually easy. Whoever emigrated will have their age on the death entry so you can estimate the date of birth. You will probably need to know the place of birth in Ireland, because you apply to the local office in that area. I found the Irish registrars to be extremely helpful and as long as you can give them an estimate they will search the records for you and send a copy of the certificates for a few pounds. I was able to track down my Irish grandmother, which gave me the right to Irish citizenship and passport.
