Until Sunday I would never say I was a fan of Whisky. Went to the pub with a mate who's a fan of the drink.

I bought us a shot of The Ardmore and thoroughly enjoyed it. It had a lovely smoky flavor to it. Looks like its about 30 quid a bottle from supermarkets, might request a bottle of it for Fathers Day!

Can anyone else recommend a good quality single malt?

Jamesons is the only whiskey my in laws drink. Every night they have a 'hot one' together....no kids allowed!
When I was younger, I used to drive Canadian Club.
Jamesons for me too.
Typo above !

For "drive" please read drink !
I hope you're not one of those drink, drivers mikey.
A recent whisky tasting in our (French) village gave the majority of votes to Talisker 10yo. Talisker is at the smokey end of the spectrum and of middling richness. Other smokey whiskies are Ardbbeg 10yo at the light end of the spectrum and Lagavulin 16yo at the opposite end. Glenmorangie original is plonk in the middle of the field whilst Knockando 12yo is light and non smokey and Glenlivet 18yo is rich and non smokey, as is Jura 10yo which I quite like. Tyrrconnell is an Irish single malt that is very light and smooth and non smokey and very drinkable.
Jura is a woman's whisky (said in a salty seadog accent!!)

We own several barrels of whisky at a couple of distilleries on Islay, So can recommend Bowmore Octomore and any Bruichladdich but also Ardbeg is very good.
