lol lol there are a lot, & I mean a lot of big company's expect the driver's to run Illegal F.F. bt some drivers will do it & risk life's to make a living.
Mikey the rollie story made me laugh, maybe he thought it was part of the expected uniform
Yes I know. I wonder if the world of 'self employed' couriers needs more checks/regulation (eg do they have appropraite insurance), although I suppose if it pushes up the cost of delivery it might not be popular
Perhaps they should replace the condition with a phrase saying, "Thickies need not apply".
(Or is that barred under thickiephobia discrimination laws ?)
I was amazed when advised my delivery number was 97 and was able to track where the lorry was all day. Just how many 'drops' does a driver have to make? It seemed exceptional to me. How many times he stops and starts and travels between 'drops'. Is this the norm?
Prudie....actually my local Postie normally has a rollie ( is that what they are called ? ) behind his ear most morning. although he tells me that he is so ruddy busy these days, being "run ragged all bloody day" that he doesn't have time to smoke it !
If they get paid say £1 per delivery I think that they would need something like 100 deliveries a day just to earn the minimum wage after thay have paid all their fuel and other costs (eg insurance must be high and they may pay approaching £100 a week for the car).
But I vaguely recall I saw a programme that suggested they get something like only 45p a delivery. I may be wrong there though
Julie...next time you have a package delivered, ask the Driver if he is overworked or not !
When it says multi-drop, I wonder if it means single items to multiple addresses or multiple items to one address - as in the case of my new kitchen? That amounted to over 200 packages of varying sizes in one drop, which is why the driver had to check the parcel numbers against his numerically itemised list to ensure that all the packages and parcels tallied. I can't see any reason why a driver delivering one parcel to multiple addresses needs any particular numerical skill.

it usually means single items to multiple addresses Naomi.
Naomi...."multi-drop normally means delivering to multiple addresses.
At least that the way my regular couriers seem to work.
Oh does it? Right. Back to the drawing board then.
Mikey, I don't think he would have time to answer, it was signature and gone!
Julie....I did think about taking on a multi-drop job last summer, but my regular courier pleaded with me to think again, and I did, thank God. A job for a younger man perhaps ( or lady) but not one for a 62 year old !
Mikey, These days you would be lucky to be considered for any job at 62. When I was working you were considered 'over the hill' for employment at 40! My husband was unemployed for 5 years before retirement at 65! It was a complete turn-around from when we started our working lives, you could pick and choose which job you wanted!
And in Germany a gender called Herren...not possible I would have thought.
^Sorry, wrong thread.
