I am an 82 year old lady who has an alcoholic son of 51 living with her. He is no longer welcome and refuses to leave saying he can't afford it because he only has a part time job and will get no help with his rent. Where can I go for help and advice please.

I read that you have received lots of good advice. You do not have to put up with this and you have had plenty of suggestions. You may actually not be doing the best for your son by being a permanent fall-back.

As Mamya says, contact Age UK, contact also your local AA. Make a heck of a nuisance of yourself with any organisation you can think of. Do you have an 'on the ball' local church? or local organisation for homeless or alchoholics? Basically try anyone, including your MP. (I mean that.)

Good luck. :) xx

Thank you Jordain not sure I am strong enough but will definitely try!!
Move to the seaside,
Then you could live over
The white cliffs of Dover...

Best wishes and I hope you get it sorted.
As an addendum.... sorry, but what happens to him when you die, if he is not already sorted out? You could try raising this with him - as well as all the other things which have been suggested.
Ellipsis has a point you know, or downsize to warden controlled 1 bedroom apartment. Just make the point that you can't do the housework any longer and that you need the equity for future health care. Then go make friends and contacts that suit you.
At 82 its not easy caring for sick but sometimes that very need is what wakes you. I hope you can find assistance or home help and your son doesnt join the ranks of drunks living rough.
I know that it will be very hard for you but you have to be quite tough with someone who has an addiction, they are very adept at making others feel guilty. Get some advice x
